The Prevent Suicide Door County Nathan Wilson Coalition is committed to reduce the number of suicides in Door County through prevention education, public awareness and overcoming stigma.

General Information

QPR means: Question, Persuade, Refer

QPR is intended to teach those who are in a position to recognize signs, clues & suicidal communications of people in trouble, to act vigorously to prevent a possible tragedy.

Our six goals are: Access, Active Intervention, Accompanied Referral, Alleviation of Immediate Risk Factors, Accurate Diagnosis, Aggressive Treatment.

We aim to increase knowledge, increase recognition of sources of stress, increase confidence and competence in helping someone in crisis. We aim to increase the likelihood to intervene and increase the likelihood to be referred to a resource.

Suicide is our most preventable form of death. Suicide begins with a thought and ends with an act.

QPR is intended to offer hope through positive action. It is NOT intended to be a form of counseling or treatment.

And we teach awareness of situational clues like being expelled from school or fired from a job. Family problems and alienating oneself from normal activities, and financial problems is another of many clues to be aware of.

We then apply QPR as an approach to help those who may be exhibiting warning signs to try and reach out to those who may be suffering. Remember, suicide is not the problem, only the solution to a perceived unsolvable problem.

When you apply QPR you plant the seeds of hope. Hope helps prevent suicide.
